Nandur Madhyameshwar Bird Sanctuary is located in Niphad Tehsil of Nasik district in western Maharashtra and was established in 1950. There is a Nandur Madhyameshwar Lake which is used to serve as a water reservoir from Gandapur and Darana Dam. The water level of the lake is always fluctuating.

Every year the lake accumulates a lot of silt and organic matter which is carried away with the flow of water. This process led to the creation of shallow water ponds and small islands in Nandu’s Madhyameshwar Bird Sanctuary. Due to the Bio-diversity of this Bird Sanctuary, this place is called the “Bharatpur of Maharashtra”. According to the Study of the Forest Department of the Government of Maharashtra and the Bombay Natural History Society, there are more than 400 species of plants and 220 species of Birds available in the protected area of 10000 hectares, which lies a core area of 1765 hectares.
