About Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary
Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Burdwan, West Bengal, India. There is a mini zoo, named, Ramnabagan Mini Zoo which is spread over an area of 14.31 hectares in the Burdwan District. In 1960, this area was declared Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary.
This forest patch is under the control of the Divisional Forest Officer, Burdwan Division, who serves as the former director of the zoo. Later, due to the biggest population of Deer, The Sanctuary was renamed Deer Park in 1978. Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over a small area of 35.36 acres, at Mouza Baburbagh in Burdwan city.
History of Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary
Ramnabagan Mini Zoo is located in Baburbagh J.L.No.40 mouza covering an area of 14.31 hectares within Ramnabagan WLS. The Divisional Forest Office of Burdawan District is control this Sanctuary. The area is full of Deer, that’s why this area was declared Deer Park in 1978.

Ramna Garden of the Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary is located around 1 km away from Burdwan City. This forest was full of Mesophyte associates such as figs, pumpkins, berries, and many more trees. This Sanctuary has also an old Tropical Deciduous Tree. If you want to take a rest from the hustle and bustle city, you can visit here like me to enjoy the green environment. Basically, there is the planting of the Maharaja of Burdwan. Bamboo clusters are also significantly richer. It is a soothing comfort in the midst of life on the outskirts of Burdwan city.

Ramabagan Wildlife Sanctuary is also full of Wildlife. There is a zoo in the sanctuary that includes sloth Bears, Peacocks, Leopards, pelicans, adjutant storks, tortoises, pink pelicans, red jungle fowls, and Black Deer, and many more animals.
Ramabagal Wildlife Sanctuary is also home to a large number of native and Migratory Birds which are martins, parakeets, cuckoos, owls, pigeons, and many more.
By the way, there is also a Nature Interpretation Center has also been established here for visitors for gaining wildlife Knowledge. In recent times, many new developments have taken place in the zoo, including the construction of new spacious enclosures for animals.
As we have already known in the upper part of the article, Ramnabagn Wildlife Sanctuary was renamed or converted into a Deer Park for six spotted deer (chital) in 1978. From the very beginning, Chital and Barking Deer were a part of the sanctuary. But now when you visit here, you will see that the number of spotted deer is quite high.

You can visit the Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary throughout the Year. But, I recommend not visiting Rainy Season. And, in my opinion, Visit this wildlife sanctuary in the Winter season, because, in the winter season there is every chance to see many migratory birds in one place.
Tiger, Bear, deer, crocodiles, and many more. Best place for a child.

- Train
- Air
- By Road: From Burwdawan City, first, you need to reach Burdwan-Durgapur which is well connected to Sukumar Sen Road and joins G.T Road at Golapbagh. After that, from the roar, You need to take a Local Bus or Taxi to reach the sanctuary.
- By Train: If you are coming by train from anywhere, you need to take off at the Burdwan Railway Station, then you can either hire a local taxi or car to reach the location or follow the Road map which explains before.
- By Air: If you are coming from a long distance, take off from Netaji International Airport in Kolkata, then take a Train and reach Burdawan Railway Station or book a Direct car to the Sanctuary.
